Holistic wellness is paramount for me and focusing on emotional, mental, and social health is key. With the change in seasons I like to switch up my beauty and self-care regimen. When the temps drop my bod just begs for some extra TLC, so I’m sharing some of my favorite pick-me-ups. I like to take one day a week (usually on Sundays) to restore my inner and outer being…a reset before a hectic week ahead. I know it may sound a touch cheesy, but self-care isn’t just about the external.
One of my favorite mood boosters is exercise. I’m all about sweating it out. Whether it’s 20 minutes or an hour, a jog around the block or some yoga stretches in front of the TV. For me, getting the heart rate up and breaking a sweat just changes my mojo. It helps take my mind away from some of the day-to-day things, and it sets a precedent for the rest of the week to be mobile. It also minimizes the excuses I make up in my head NOT to exercise. I know that I’ll feel better, physically and mentally, afterwards, but of course the challenge is that first step.
Another piece that’s often overlooked is rest. Sometimes our body just needs extra sleep. If I feel overstressed from the previous week, I’ll get a massage, hit up a sauna or steam room and bask in the peace of a spa. Living in Brooklyn, I’m lucky enough to have the Bathhouse in Williamsburg just a short walk from home (this should be a whole other post because it is awesome here). They have both dry and tropical saunas, three thermal pools, heated marble hammams, and some solid massage therapists. Escaping to a quiet place at least once a week (especially when you have littles) is major for me. I love doing meditations or silent prayers in the silence of the sauna or during a massage turning it into my personal sanctuary.
I love refreshing my beauty wardrobe and trying out new products. It could be snagging a new face mask or lipstick or even trying a new shampoo… just to change things up a bit. Here are some recent purchases that I’m using for an at home experience.
La Mer Cool Gel Cream– On the pricier side but this has worked wonders for my skin, and really has minimized my wrinkles. They’re creeping in, and this just hides them with moisture with no greasy feel after.
HelloBody- I am loving this brand. Cruelty free products that are made to match your skin type. Right now, I’m using the now I am loving the Pure-Balance routine set specific for combination to oily skin. Use my code: my code to get 30% off your first purchase: REFBTXPEAQBDK*
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish Color Corrector-This is an amazing color-corrector that helps neutralize and smooth the undereye brightening up the skin. Get this… your tired eyes will thank me😊
Algenist Perfect Clarifying Pore Mask- I recently discovered Algenist and started using their hand cream (needed something strong for the excessive handwashing forming dry cracked skin). I turned to the mask and LOVE it. This has reduced my pores big time and has given an overall brightness to my skin tone.
Elemis Superfood Kefir Tea Mist- Guilty of spritzing myself with this more than 5x a day. I feel super hydrated after and not overly dewy. It balances my skin tone with kefir ferment and smells like a delish cup of green tea.
These are just a few things I do to practice self-care. Give yourself a time-out, especially when you’ve got people who rely on you. I revert to that saying: “You can’t pour from an empty cup”… take care.
